Do you know Jesus?
This is the fundamental question to understanding Christianity. Christians place their hope and lives on the truth that Jesus is God (specifically God the Son) and he was born in the flesh over two thousand years ago in Bethlehem. He lived a perfect life and taught the truth about His Father (specifically God the Father) and of the world.
Not only did Jesus reveal the Father by his own words, but he also drew all listeners to God's Word (the Old Testament) which had already been given. He made it clear that his coming meant all the promises made to God's people from the beginning of creation were permanently coming true. The greatest of these promises was a perfect relationship fueled by love between God and his people. The problem was that people wanted to love themselves more than they loved God, but "God so loved the world that he gave his only son that whoever believes in him might have eternal life" (John 3:16, ESV)
Jesus was rejected by those who ought to have known him as the true Son of God, the Christ, who would save them from their sins which separated them from enjoying this perfect relationship with God. Jesus was crucified, died, and was buried, all according to the plan of God because sin had to be dealt with. Sin is so serious and will keep all people away from the blessed promises of God, except those who come to believe that Jesus paid the full price for their sins in his death. There is no other way to have this perfect relationship with God. There is no other way to find forgiveness of sins. There is no other way to have peace with God other than the peace brought by Jesus. Jesus taught that, and what happened next confirmed it.
After three days dead, Jesus was resurrected and left the tomb. He ate and drank with his disciples and helped them understand further what they were to teach others. Jesus then ascended into heaven and sat down with the authority of all things in heaven and on earth because he accomplished all he needed to do in his earthly ministry. He then sent his Spirit (specifically God the Holy Spirit) to dwell with his disciples and empower the work he gave them to do.
That work is to make Him known and to share the good news that anyone who believes in him will be saved and have all the promises of God as theirs.
Do you know Jesus? This is the real Jesus.
